Engineering & Research Division / Embedded & Edge Software Engineer About Engineering and Research Division Our Engineering and Research Division consists of mainly three teams that handle end-to-end development of hardware and software systems for energy storage and power transfer solutions and services. Currently, approximately 55-60 specialists are engaged in the mission of advancing energy storage technologies and solutions. The Division is organized into the following teams: Series Development: Responsible for prototyping, testing & validation, requirements engineering, series handover of new products, including product support and commissioning. Advanced Engineering: Responsible for development and experimentation of emerging technologies to sustain our current and future roadmap of energy solutions, with focus areas such as embedded development, PCB design, model-based development, battery management, power conversion, digital twins, edge computing, cloud solutions, AI/ML-based dispatch optimization, generation, and forecasts. Product Lifecycle Management: Manages product and project lifecycles by tracking across quality gates through development, sourcing, value engineering, manufacturing, and after-sales activities through cross-functional coordination and data-intensive product lifecycle assessment. Working alongside talented engineers from around the world, you will have the opportunity to thrive in a diverse environment that values autonomy and empowers individuals to make effective contributions while gaining new skills and experiences on some of the latest emerging technologies directly applied to our solutions. Description About the role We are looking for an Embedded / Edge Software Engineer to develop software running on edge devices for PowerX’s battery energy storage systems and EV charging infrastructure. This role focuses on the software layer between physical energy assets and cloud-based systems. You will work on embedded and edge-side software running on PLCs, industrial PCs, IoT gateways, and edge controllers, enabling communication and control between battery systems, EMS, PMS, and cloud services. This is not a cloud/server-side application role. The main focus is software development for on-site devices and industrial control systems, primarily using C++. Job Scope Develop embedded and edge-side software for PowerX battery systems, EV charging stations, and related energy infrastructure Design and implement software running on PLCs, industrial PCs, IoT gateways, and edge controllers Develop communication and control interfaces between battery systems, EMS, PMS, cloud servers, and on-site devices Implement software for IoT devices such as ESS Master Controller and IoT gateways Work with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, EchonetLite, and other field-level protocols Requirements Software development experience using C++ for embedded systems, edge devices, or industrial control systems Experience developing software for PLCs, industrial PCs, IoT gateways, embedded Linux devices, or similar edge platforms Basic knowledge of computer science, including algorithms, data structures, networking, and operating systems Understanding of network communication, device-to-cloud communication, and system integration Preferred Experiences Experience in battery energy storage systems, EV chargers, EMS, PMS, BMS, PCS, or other energy-related systems Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, EchonetLite, CAN, OPC UA, or similar protocols Experience with Linux-based embedded systems or real-time operating systems Experience developing software for industrial equipment, factory automation systems, power equipment, or control devices Experience with MQTT, REST APIs, gRPC, or other cloud/edge communication technologies Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or cloud IoT platforms We are looking for Someone who enjoys building software that operates close to real-world physical systems Someone who is interested in energy systems, batteries, EV charging, and the future of distributed energy infrastructure Someone who can proactively learn unfamiliar technologies and domains Someone who can work hands-on with actual devices, not only software simulations Someone who can collaborate across hardware, software, cloud, and business teams Someone who can take ownership of ambiguous technical challenges and move them forward independently Someone who is flexible, practical, and comfortable working in a fast-changing environment
