Gaido Japan10 min de leitura

Osaka is Japan's third-largest city and its undisputed food capital. Known as "tenka no daidokoro" (the nation's kitchen), Osaka's motto is "kuidaore" — eat until you drop. But there's far more to this vibrant city than food.

Where to Eat

Dotonbori

The neon-lit canal district is Osaka's most famous food street. Must-try dishes:
  • Takoyaki (octopus balls) — Try Kukuru or Wanaka for the best
  • Okonomiyaki (savory pancake) — Mizuno is legendary, expect a queue
  • Kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) — Daruma is the classic choice

Shinsekai

This retro neighborhood near Tsutenkaku Tower is kushikatsu heaven. The neon signs and old-school atmosphere make it feel like stepping back in time.

Kuromon Market

"Osaka's Kitchen" has been serving fresh seafood, street food, and produce for over 190 years. Try the giant grilled scallops and fresh sashimi.

Top Attractions

Osaka Castle

The magnificent castle sits in a beautiful park and houses a museum covering Osaka's history. The view from the top floor observation deck is spectacular, especially during cherry blossom season.

Universal Studios Japan (USJ)

Home to the wildly popular Super Nintendo World, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and thrilling rides. Buy Express Passes online in advance — they sell out quickly.

Kaiyukan Aquarium

One of the world's largest aquariums, featuring a massive whale shark tank. Located in the Tempozan Harbor Village area with great views of Osaka Bay.

Floating Garden Observatory (Umeda Sky Building)

The futuristic rooftop observatory offers 360° panoramic views of Osaka. Especially beautiful at sunset and after dark.

Nightlife

Osaka's nightlife scene is legendary among Japan's cities:

  • Namba/Shinsaibashi — Main entertainment district with countless bars and clubs
  • Amerikamura — Youth culture hub, independent bars and live music
  • Hozenji Yokocho — Atmospheric alley with traditional bars

Practical Tips

  • Osaka Amazing Pass: ¥2,800 for one day of unlimited train/bus rides + free entry to 50+ attractions
  • Getting there: Shinkansen from Tokyo (2.5 hours), Kansai Airport by Haruka Express (50 min)
  • Best area to stay: Namba for food and nightlife, Umeda for business and shopping
Osaka's warmth isn't just in its food — it's in the people. Osakans are famously friendly and humorous, making this city one of the most welcoming places in Japan for foreigners.
